Real Estate in Epping: Development, Development, Development
Epping has been one of the major areas of new residential development in the Plenty corridor. It is not a newly settled area – the first school was built in 1872 – but the suburb was largely developed in the 1970s. Recent and imminent development will change the character of Epping for good. Epping is shedding its old image as ‘the end of the line’ because it is about to become the beginning of the line, the gateway to the new north of Melbourne.
Major infrastructure in Epping includes the Northern Hospital, Epping Plaza Shopping Centre, and the NMIT Epping campus. There is much development still taking place, too. The new Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market and National Flower Centre, begun in 2009, is due for completion in 2014. The massive residential development to the north, will ensure Epping’s continuing growth and prosperity as a service and transport centre.
Epping’s Safe and Sound
Epping’s population is youthful, family households being the dominant demographic fact. There are four primary schools and four secondary schools in Epping. Epping Plaza and the new markets mean that Epping offers the best shopping in the outer northern suburbs. Residents appreciate safe streets, modern housing and easily accessible public transport. Epping is a growing, harmonious multicultural suburb. And it’s still affordable.
